Photographs
My father put a camera in my hands when I was about 7 years old and said, "go take some nice pictures." Confused about the assignment, I gathered my friends and took photographs of them as we went about our afternoon playing.
Since then, I've been hooked. Throughout my teenage years, I took an annual pilgrimage to the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. and took closeups of flowers, particularly at azalea time.
I use my camera for pleasure and work. For pleasure, I like to look at details in nature, as their details get more and more abstract. For work, I've spent years documenting textile traditions in the Balkans, Slovakia, and among Russian Old Believers living in Oregon.
Here are some photographs which make me happy.
Documentation photography can be seen in the Virtual Exhibit section of this site, accessible through the home page.
