Weaving a simple pick-up belt
Watch the weaver as she uses the weaving 'knife' to pick up the pattern threads for a particular shed. Once she has picked up the pattern threads, she uses the 'knife' to beat the shed and open it. This weaver has an unusual practice; she uses two weft threads per shed, one going from right to left, one from left to right. This makes a thicker and stronger belt. She weaves belts for others as well as herself. |
